It's been some time
Since I bore witness
To innocence of this kind
I had no idea
When I gave birth
That life could be so kind
It amazes me to see you both
After you have been apart
The smile on your face is priceless
Some might call it art
You hold each other with such intent
It almost melts my heart
You look at him with vulnerability
Wondering where it is that you should start
To tell him all about your week
And the things that you have seen
The new things that you have learned you love
And the places you have been
But he is getting older now
His interests new and vast
As you grow older just behind him
His love for you won't pass
I did not have this
When I was young
It burns inside me to go back
To have that bond, I did not share
The friendships I did lack
But I will live them through you
For the happiness you bring
It fills me up with hope
That one day, I too can sing
About the beauty that is life
The sound of unbridled laughter
The solace that is family
And my, happy ever after

Oh, Sian, this is so beautiful! The last lines made me feel very emotional, but in a good way. Thank you!
So lovely! My son is an only child, he will miss out on the things siblings share, but he has adopted a friend's only-child son as a surrogate little brother. So he will learn a little of what it is to have someone look up to him. Family, whether blood or by choice is so amazing!
Lovely words Sian
