Tinsel garland stitched

To the tippy top wall

With a high portrait to white washed

wood paneling ratio

Velvet diptych of Jesus and the Virgin

Sacred hearts blazing

like your Friday night buzz

Who can forget

The Seagrams mirrors, etched and frosted

With sports legends

You lifted from the dive bar in town

Floral still lives, peppered in between

An interior design cacophony

Not so easy on the eyes

And a sleek silver clock

With lines, not numbers

So any child who enters will know

you super understand how to tell time

Although paradoxic and chronic lateness

Suggest otherwise

Those shiny, silver hour markers

begging to be sucked up

by a tightly rolled Andrew Jackson

or a leftover 5-Star straw,

Peeled from a styrofoam

Mountain Dew receptacle

As if this were the crack

The oil matted couch cushion

Where all the lost marbles fell

Better to be a catatonic ghost

Vacuum packed on the wall,

Or still squatting within them?

surreal poetry
