Falling Through The Ice
Beneath the Ice
Falling—
a sudden crack,
a breath stolen mid-gasp
as the world gives way beneath.
Cold fists wrap tight,
pulling, swallowing,
lungs burn with silence,
fingers scrape at glassy walls—
no door, no way out.
Light shimmers above,
so close, so far,
a blurred ghost of what was.
Heart slows, shadows stretch,
the ice holds tight.
sinking down down
And then—
nothing.

Good work on a poem that is all about fear and dying.
