Falling Off the Moon
She dreamed she was falling off the moon,
Her fingers reaching for the stars,
But each one slipped like melting snow,
And vanished into endless dark.
The wind around her whispered softly,
It told her truths she couldn’t keep,
Of lovers lost and chances faded,
Of promises that died in sleep.
She passed by clouds of pale remembrance,
Each shaped like moments left behind,
The laughter once so full and golden,
Now echoed faintly through her mind.
Below, the earth spun slow and distant,
Its lights like embers, cold and few,
She tried to call, her voice was broken,
The sound dissolved into the blue.
She thought of home, of warmth, of waking,
Of hands she longed to feel again,
Yet gravity refused to hold her,
And dreams refused to ease her pain.
She fell through time, through night unending,
Her heart a fragile satellite,
Still bound to love, still lost to reason,
Still chasing dawn through endless night.
And when at last her eyes reopened,
Her pillow damp, her breath a sigh,
She knew the dream had never ended,
She still was falling through the sky.
