Faded Love

Some smiles light up a room in the darkest of days,

and laughter that warms a heart.

Looking for something real often doesn't pay,

and we all know it's risky from the start.

The closest I ever came was oh so long ago,

in the beginning, it was a mystery,

and something I was glad to know,

accepting from the start, the risk of misery.

Nothing good comes without a price,

and some things are worth risking it all.

Finding something that always feels nice,

now that's an order that's awfully tall.

From the start it was crazy,

and excitement did abound.

So many great nights run together and are hazy,

but it was something so special that was found.

A mystery wrapped inside a brazen blonde,

and always worth the effort.

Instantly, a heart became very fond,

even knowing it was likely to be hurt.

Lives are so messy because of the sins that we suffer,

and knowing them made it all the more special.

Next to a survivor, there is nobody ever tougher,

a life that had already tested one's metal.

From that very first date,

to that last shining moment,

brought together by fate,

and our time was so spent.

The sins of the other,

I could not ever pay.

It's a price that could smother,

but worth it at the end of the day.

Paid for sins,

would that have made you taken care of,

I'd have paid for those sins,

instead, we suffered a faded love.
