Faceless Fears

A recurring nightmare I had for three months.

By Allyson WittekindPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

Time aches, so I thought nothing when I walked out the door

I stood there bewildered, that shouldn’t be out here

Silence echoes but its scream was a roar

The noise and hustle from the day was the final chore

My world can be calmed by my dreams that are near

The air is still- but it's there, weeping deplore

For who? No matter, I walk out the door

The creature stands there with a violent austere

It’s features tear as it screams and yells and roars

Why is it back? My mind breaks and pours

Its voice grows louder “WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?”

The being yelled to implore

Frightened, I turn for the door

Now back in my bed it can disappear

I will not fall asleep to deafen its roar

I never know what the creature came for

Tranquil does not exist here

Only the beast by the tree that waits outside my door

This faceless beast I abhor
