She awakens with a smile as she’s kissed by the morning sun,
Anticipating all the world has in store,
She’s been busy closing doors, burning bridges, cleaning house,
Knowing the future holds so much more.
******
Anticipation graces her face as her eyes open upon the new day,
Confident she’s not the fool one takes her for,
Answers are foretold with words of golden opportunity,
And the best is yet to come, the tomorrows she has in store.
******
Her time to rise and shine is now,
Although it took its own sweet time to arrive,
The years of tears washed the slate clean,
Pulling her through the wringer, where all she could do was survive.
******
Where once she was broken, a thousand pieces scattered wide,
She has found and protected every piece of the jigsaw that was thought to be lost,
Slowly building the picture back to become one in the land of the living,
While those sent to destroy extracted every penny it cost.
******
She paid her dues, now her light shines bright,
Destined for the peace and happiness she craved so long,
Her breath flows easily, her smile has been found,
And she finally sits where she’s always belonged.
******
Her golden years will merge her into long forgotten dreams,
Making memories that’ll cancel all those years of heartbreak and turmoil,
Freedom awaits at the end of that long, dusty road,
As she saunters the river of hope as it slowly uncoils.
******
Time is not a given, so wasting it is not an option,
She’s packed away her old life, buried the bodies and moved ahead,
There are many roads to travel, people to meet, places to see,
Now she no longer looks back, eyes on the future instead.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

This was so freaking awesomeeee! Loved it, my kindred spirit!
Such a beautiful poem...
Beautiful and inspiring.
Beautiful poem! I especially like “ There are many roads to travel, people to meet, places to see!” Because life is busy! Who has time for grievances when there is so much to do and so little time! It was very well spoken! Very impressive poetry!
