Eyes

By William Sangalli

As he reaches for that dark grey shirt that has a ripple pattern with each thread, he says:

"There is something sad about you."

"Here," he gestures towards her in a bobbing motion

"Try this on---

It matches your eyes."

They were dark eyes accompanied by bags, but that never took away from her divine stare. Nothing could.

She begins to laugh, but the smile doesn't reach her eyes.

“You can be so hurtful without even trying to be, sweetheart,” with a blank stare.

It seems as if she wanted to spill her truth, and just let it go while it dripped from her maw, but instead, she said

“I can’t understand some of the things you say. You are just a pretentious asshole withoiut even putting in an effort to be one”

He realizes he had another failed attempt at being romantic and was met with anger. Being perceived by him seemed to be something she did not want.

He went blank. Words could not form as they sat on the blue sheets that had held them for many nights.

Silence took over.

But,

The love he felt was at its zenith in this moment.

Something about her, the way her laugh was light and easy going, but could still fill a room with ecstasy.

Aphrodite had overcome his being and taken over every instinct and sense when she was near. And this time was no different.

Even when nothing needed to be said or was being spoken, he felt something purely because she existed.

she pulls the shirt over her head and through each arm while holding nothing short of a profound beauty that no human has witnessed. Only she could produce this beauty.

“ Let’s just go, I'm over it. It's whatever. Truly.” she said.

He knew better and asked, “ Come on, what's wrong? Let’s talk about this so it doesn’t fester and form into something greater.”

She ignores that and says again, “Let's just go.”

He awakens.

Feelings of grogginess and restlessness consume.

she felt beyond real. Almost as if she were still currently right in front of him.

However, that is not the reality that is being presented to him.

It may have been a dream, but something was learned from it.
