There once was a cat, a wee lass,
Whose life did quietly pass
Til one day she darted
Out the door and she started
To frolic around in the grass
Intrigued, her eyes soon found
An ant, scurrying on the ground
At it, her paw flicked
And her ears turned and pricked
At every new and passing sound
The sounds of dogs, of birds and bees
Filled the air and filled the trees
Big eyes, wide and round
Looked for every sound
There was so much to see!
Much later she plopped in the sun
No longer feeling the need to run
When a sound oh so rough
Made her tail smartly puff
And spoiled her sun drenched fun
The noise, a low rumble, crass
Did puzzle the wee furry lass
When around the corner did show
A monster, red, roaring, and slow
Pushed by a man all around the grass!
With a hiss and a spit she flew
To the door, where she loudly mewed
At the door, tightly locked
The way to safety it blocked!
Oh what was a kitten to do?
But soon the human did hear
And opened the doorway, clear
When the tabby, though flustered,
Showing all dignity she could muster
And sauntered in without any fear
Yet the wee lass had her fill
Of all the outdoor thrills
For the buzzing of bees
And the chirping in trees
Were best seen from her sill
And now the kitty does lay
In her sunny window each day
With a stretch and a purr
And some licking of fur
Content to stay out of the fray!
