Evidentiary Support
For "I Didn't Say That Out Loud " Challenge
If only every shutter flash
Left sooty remnants on my skin
Streaks of hot ash
Highlighting every trace of sin
Scarred lashes gouged deep in
No fabric or spackle could obfuscate
Lines flashing like neon signs
Remnants of barbed wire binds
Around my hands and tongue
Maybe I would have been identified

Who am I kidding?
Why would my luck have changed?
Blame likes to attach itself to the
Distinctive reek of shame
It would have latched onto my name
It did anyway

If they’d gnawed off a finger
Sawed off a few toes
I might have escaped a little more whole
Instead, I’m hollowed out
Thin as an eggshell
Dyed and painted
Identical to all the others in the row

Now I sit entranced
Examining the memory
Splatter blown out
The hole in the side of
My soul
⫘⫘⫘📸⫘⫘⫘📸⫘⫘⫘📸⫘⫘⫘
The swift ending of
My previous life
Already ruled a suicide
With no evidence to the contrary
All swept away with my
Recollection and mind
No witnesses, no crime
