There have been many great long love stories throughout history, but one of the most famous and beloved is the story of Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Robert Browning.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning was an accomplished poet who suffered from poor health and lived in near isolation with her strict father in London. Robert Browning was also a poet, and when he read Elizabeth's poetry, he was immediately struck by her talent and intellect. He wrote to her, and they began a long and intense correspondence.

Despite the disapproval of her father, Elizabeth and Robert fell in love through their letters. They eventually eloped to Italy and were married in secret. Their love continued to flourish in Italy, and they supported each other in their writing and in their personal lives.

Their love story is immortalized in the collection of love poems Elizabeth wrote for Robert, called "Sonnets from the Portuguese." These sonnets, which include the famous lines "How do I love thee? Let me count the ways," express the depth and intensity of their love for each other.

Elizabeth and Robert Browning remained devoted to each other until Elizabeth's death in 1861.
