Evening's Rainy Drive

Promises Kept

By Dan R FowlerPublished about a year ago 1 min read

Evening’s Rain

It’s not something that many would do,

This opportunity that we take, we two.

There’s many reasons not to go, to try,

But nightly we kiss daylight goodbye.

Overhead the sky is filled with dark clouds,

Some express promise others only misty shrouds.

Some cloak their bundled fortune, rain at night,

In darkness, we travel silently staying out of sight.

Crouched under stunted bushes perchance,

Peering squinted eyes, and wet paws to catch a glimpse.

It’s the evening’s rain that calls them out,

Together unchained drenched untamed no doubt.

Rain upon windows splatter liquid promises exploding,

Clouds lowering, billowing, winds controlling.

It’s our time with promises that must be kept,

Between us two whether wind blown or storm swept.

The crack of thunder, flashes of lightning unchained,

Proclaiming the evening’s freedom that’s why we came.

This promise that’s kept each rainy evening,

Without swaying, without nay-saying, no deceiving.

And once the turrets have emptied their fortunes,

Spattering puddles of evening’s onslaught done,

It’s at the moment we a simple smile we express,

Knowing each evening’s rain squalls are the best.
