Ethereal Love

A Poem

By Sam LovegoodPublished 4 years ago Updated 4 years ago 1 min read

“Mother, I have made it home.”

She doesn't know she’s not alone

“Mother, won't you look at me!”

How strange that she cannot see

“Father, did you watch the game?”

He seemed to not remember my name

“Father, can we take a stroll?”

This was starting to take a toll

“Friend, let’s drink wine and dance!”

Do I not deserve a second glance?

“Friend, what's gotten into you?”

I was blind to what was true

I am just a floating mass

Of consciousness and ghostly gas

Try as I may for them to see

Invisible is all I'll ever be

I walked amongst the many faces

Foregoing any social graces

Until I saw a man walk by

That seemed to catch me in his eye

“Stranger, do you hear my voice?”

Was it just me, or did he rejoice?

“Stranger, do you feel my touch?”

He answered with a loving clutch

We saw each other clear as day

Hand in hand we drifted away

While the world forgot our faces

Our love filled the missing spaces
