Eternity Of What If

By: Jason Morton

By Jason Ray Morton Published 4 years ago 1 min read

What if? What if you spent an eternity on this rock called home?

Throughout the longest of times have I known this world,

watching from the sidelines,

seen but never heard.

Experiencing your joys, pains, and sorrows,

while staying away from your business,

as you ruin all tomorrows.

To interfere is not the way,

never forgetting I'm one man,

one man with little sway.

I watched you and I loved you,

admiring your world and your imperfections,

always afraid if I revealed myself, what would you do?

Things you don't know, that drive you to fear,

always failing to understand your own world,

teetering on the brink from year to year.

What if tomorrow never came,

a question so few of you ever ask,

just assuming the world will forever be the same.

The truth of all time is that worlds they do end,

and it's a truth that you're spared

the pain of knowing, my friend.

Thousands of times, through all of space,

seeing all their ends

explaining the look on my face.

Aging, something I can not do.

Aging will never define me,

just a world lost to me and you.

We are among you,

immortals one and all.

Among you we walk, it's our world too...
