A Love Torn by War's Cruel Hand

Beneath the ancient willow tree,

They pledged their love, their hearts set free,

A man and woman, hand in hand,

Dreaming of a future planned.

He whispered vows, a soldier's creed,

Promised to return, to meet her need,

But war's dark shadow loomed ahead,

A path of sorrow, paved in dread.

Her eyes, like stars, shone bright with tears,

As he departed, faced his fears,

A kiss, a touch, a final glance,

Left her in a silent trance.

Days turned to weeks, then months, then years,

Her hope sustained through endless fears,

Letters came, then ceased one day,

In silence, she began to pray.

The willow wept with every breeze,

Her heart ached in the memories,

Of love that bloomed and then was torn,

By fate's cruel hand, she was forlorn.

He never made it through the fight,

A hero lost in endless night,

His name etched in a distant land,

A sacrifice, a final stand.

Yet in her dreams, he lives anew,

Their love, a bond that time can’t undo,

Beneath the willow, whispers soft,

Their souls entwined, forever aloft.

Though war has claimed his earthly form,

Their love persists through every storm,

An eternal echo, pure and true,

A testament to love they knew.

In twilight's glow, she feels him near,

A phantom touch, a whispered cheer,

Two hearts, once parted by cruel fate,

Reunited at heaven's gate.
