Escape

The world is brighter when you're free

By Amber Yozelle BarberPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

I dip from the blackness,

Inky blue, held under,

Trapped in Silence.

I clasp at cracks of golden light,

A silver sliver of hope,

Push back and hold my head high.

Defiant, fight back, hold out,

Pushed down, stand back up.

Upon my own two feet,

Take a chance and escape,

burst forth and embrace clear blue.

A clear open sky,

Cool green at my feet,

A deep unfurling in my lungs.

Freedom brightens all,

Sharpens lines, smells sweet,

heightens all my senses.

The beauty surpasses my fears,

I stop running, pause and bend,

to a rose of creamy-pink,

Delicate scent and velvet to my cheek.

Perfection. So simple.

Ordinary, yet exceptional.

I'm safe now, independent,

Allowed to be myself,

To dream vividly in neon,

in reds, purple and gold.

No-one limits me now,

my wings are unchained,

spread wide, glossy and smooth.

You can't catch me now,

I'm FREE,

No-one owns me, but me.
