ERA

“I suspect there will never be a requiem for a dream, simply because it will destroy us before we have the opportunity to mourn it's passing.” ― Hubert Selby Jr., Requiem for a Dream

ERA

-------------------------

Fallen leaves it’s 2015

I’m an emotional wreck

A broken spirit

With hope on deck

And when the last leaf fell

I was picking up the pieces

Until the grass died

And the trees were bare

Before we blinked

Christmas past

A new yEaR wAs born

2016, it's election bullshit

Two sides screamed

While the world was on fire

my child turned six

And I prepared for a newborn

Now, It's been 4 years

like a Requiem

I’m playing Amadeus

my newborn is 4, oldest, ten

Human beings are still screaming

About politics, and shit

I’m anxious

All the chaos I’m seeing

I want a future

To be brighter than it’s been

And if you ask me what I believe in?

But judge me to be stupid

Before you’ve ever heard my side

Or let my lips open wide

Have you been where I’ve been?

Have you seen what I’ve seen?

Do you even know what I believe?

Would it matter in the end?

If the answer is no

with EaRs that Are closed?

Then you’re just as guilty

As the vitriol you’ve perceived

But that wave

It’s receding

Back into the sea

Where you’ve judged me

For being me

Instead of who I really am

A human being
