Endings Are Difficult To Swallow
Everything must end, and everything must stop.

Endings are difficult to swallow.
As adult children, we’re taught to choke them down like collard greens.
Their spiky thorns tore like cactus leaves,
and leaving things behind was the worst kind of goodbye
because there was no “hello” to follow…
Endings are oh so difficult to swallow.
*
Although they can be happy,
tears still fall,
because even though we’ve grown we know
we’re still just little saplings.
So we’re so sad to be so happy,
worrying what comes next might not be
and yet we fear a dull monotony.
*
Keep in mind,
a story told a millions times
will lose the spark it used to use to shine.
So endings are mandatory
in order to begin another story.
*
As child adults, we’re taught to close doors behind us.
But even beyond those closed doors
there’s a world of wonder to flip the pages of,
so don’t be scared to lead a life of endings, love.
They are the best place to start,
after all.
*
See, life’s the flight of fledgling birds
whose wings will learn to rise and fall…
Stand tall.
This is your current end and your next beginning,
and at the next end
you might only make ends meet,
and that beginning might be the means to an end
Yes, it all depends,
but in the end this is just the beginning.
*
So keep on grinning,
keep on winning,
ignore the clock’s constant spinning,
because you decide what to end
and what to start again.
*
I promise even the hardest endings to swallow
are followed up with the sweetest,
most flavorful beginnings.
Because underneath that thorny shell
the cactus juice is sweet and goes down well,
and before that baby bird flew she fell.
*
So, know that the end
is just erasing the chalkboard,
to welcome another beautiful work of art.
So, here’s to a happy end,
and here’s to a fresh start.
