A Poem

The calcification of my heart has begun,

every part of humanity being stripped from me

skin to bone

changing the meaning of mortality.

The warmth disappearing,

the frost burrowing

and I am empty.

Brittle bones breaking

my structure is falling apart

skin falling in on itself.

The breath of life leaving my lungs

contractions stopped

muscles are frozen in time.

All color greying out

muted by the end of it all

time has not been my friend.

Everything I am is a memory of a life gone

like breath in a mirror

and I have only been dead an hour.

Wow, this has such a powerful and haunting tone. The imagery of the heart calcifying, the coldness taking over, and the slow unraveling of self is intense. It conveys a deep sense of loss, the passing of time, and the fragility of life. It's chilling yet beautifully written.
