Times change; it all happens so fast
Little did we know grandest plans might fall
With age comes the reality that only the memories will last
With youth, we'll remember being impervious and mighty tall
Lucky ones find the greatest of treasure
It's those who found purpose and the magics of love
A lucky one would feel the greatest of pleasure
Feeling like light shone on them from the heavens above
The not-so-enchanted lives of millions of people making the news
Forgotten, they are over the strain of the years
Time waits for none, not fortunate or living the blues
Hope that the less happy have someone to wash away their tears
In all those faces, you read the effects of their tales
From kings and queens to the paupers on the street
To watch their expressions, for the gifted, it never fails
You see, even kings and queens don't find life is always sweet
Showing up is the key to one's final chapter in their story
Will they be the hero or the villain of their time on Earth
Was their story be filled with love, joy, and laughter, or an end so gory
Or did they show this world that they had so much worth
Judge not by what you see
Be wary of casting your day onto them too quick
Watch their faces and treat them as you'd like to be
Because even a rich and happy king might give you a big kick

Writing has become more important as I live with cancer. It's a therapy, it's an escape, and it's a way to do something lasting that hopefully leaves an impression.

Take the Golden Rule & turn it platinum by remembering that the way we want to be treated is in the generality of the statement & not the specifics of its incarnation. In other words, treat them the way they want to be treated more than in the specifics of how we want to be treated.
