Ember

(how it meets the dawn)

By John AnthonyPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

And in our trials for endless love,

seeking in desperation for the One

whose whisper thunders our soul,

whose gaze halts our breath,

whose touch rattles our chest

and melts our blood into boiling currents,

we often blame the stars or shame ourselves

after these flashes of divinity are swallowed up

by some misunderstood cause.

And doubt poisons tomorrows vision,

barricading the presents beauty

so iron bars gain rust around the undying heart.

If only the coals of infinity could ignite the kindlings of passion

and spread its wildfire to all smothered camps,

what a sight to see!

What warmth would keep at bay all the cold winds of loneliness!

And though the flickered flames of fire

entrance the eye with dazzling shows,

it is the coals which give us heat

and is there long after flames perish,

glowing in patient tempo throughout the dark night

to meet the suns golden rays

shining through the visitant smoke.

About the Creator

John Anthony

Began writing out of a strange impulse while working as a cashier. Inspired at first by lyrics then spread my spotlight to include anything profound and human.
