What do you see?
I'm Glaring in this mirror
Trying to mimic My reflection
With a pencil & a brush
I'll modify my perfect imperfections
To create my transitional transgression
From who I really am
to who I want to be
Crazy how this glass
Claims to show me
What other people perceive ...
What do you see?
A dab of foundation
To Cover up where I started
Ill paint the brown weeds
that wither in the cracks of my lips
With a tube of the sweetest tones of sherbet lipstick
To show you the grass IS greener on the other side
And even when I sit in darkness
The color in my blush can
Give a depiction of the sun rise..ing
Against the horizon...
Of my cheek bones
That gives you a taste of my strength
With each smile I fake
What do you see ?
I really want to know,
I'm looking in this mirror
While I'm playing up an illusion,
Of what I want you to see..
But what do you see?
A confident aloof of a job well done
A strong woman who stands still
But really wants to run
What do you see ?
Is this mascara
Revealing the black lines
That flow down my cheeks
And into the river of what use to be?
What do you see ?
A woman who works two jobs
Runs her own business
Is in school
And is a bit egotistic?
Yes I stop to glance at my self
A constant reminder that ,
that girl that was doing bad
Is a ohhhhweee badd mamma jamma
What do you see?
Maybe I'm transparent
To the present
Can you see my past?
A little girl in a shelter
Trying to make her last, last
The smell of cardboard boxes
Is home ...
Pack up. Unpack.
What do you see ?
Is it the pride in my eyes
The crack in my voice
The pep in my walk
That reveals me?
What do you see ?
Because when I glance in this mirror
I'm blinded to the idea of me
You see
I believe the strongest image you can capture
Are the ones imprinted in your memories
So I pray that the day you really see me
Is the day of the forgotten
When you remember
I am more than what you see
The day I'm under
The day my soul is released
Is day the that will finally reveal
What I made you feel in this world
the beautiful glory in the glow
In flashbacks Of what you remembered to see
