Eden Revisited

An Abandoned Garden

By Amanda CokerPublished 8 years ago 1 min read

My body is a sacred garden capable of growing, giving, and sustaining life. It is my superpower.

And when you came to my garden -lonely, weary, and hungry - I gave you a place to rest and kept you company as you satisfied your appetite. With every kiss you cultivated my land, making it ripe to sow your seed.

My body is a magical garden experienced at growing, giving, and sustaining life. It is my superpower.

Your body is merely a memory. Your memory is like a scarecrow in my garden: Never present, yet always there. Your presence is enough to keep other wanderers away from the land you planted. Now my garden multiplies and soon it will be a nursery. Set to harvest in December.

My body is a wondrous garden skilled to grow, give, and sustain life. It is my superpower.

I believed it was an invincible superpower without flaw. I feel the tormenting agony of an invisible enemy. The pain becoming excruciating, I can’t breathe. Waterfalls pour out of my eyes, and I feel like I am drowning in the sea of blood that flows out of me. It is the blood of life ending. I am drowning in the Dead Sea.

I am the Garden Eden, created for giving and sustaining life. It is my superpower; my gift and my curse.

I don’t know what made it happen - but as the doctor prepares to remove the roots of life that remain inside - I swear I can see who did this. And he looks a lot like the scarecrow; he looks a lot like you. I should have known better, but I was certain the deceptive snake had been banished from the Garden.

Once a perfect paradise, Eden is now desolate and deserted, awaiting the return of life.
