Eclipse
The union of two opposing forces.
I can only see the moon when the sky goes black
Yet when the sky goes black, I can’t see the sun
A predictable cycle of a snake biting its own tail
Only allowed one when the other is done
Without a true beginning or end, consistent within its countervail
The repetitive movements of an age-old ritual
World aching to comply
Life thoroughly habitual
As daybreak colors the sky
And nightfall takes it away
A union was only found on the day of the eclipse
The white ringed moon seared into my eyes
Blind to anything but it’s wonderful grip
The world moved around me as I stayed stagnant within it’s reprise
Will the refusal to blink away this unity cause my misery?
Do I really want to repeat that image so much?
It was but a flicker in time, and yet I had made it last forever
Like a parasite it stays, me enticed by its kind touch
The heat has caused my skin to sever
The moon brings the tide up as I stand motionless
Either way I will die
Whether from the sun’s loving caress
Or the moon’s graceful rise
My skin prickles as the layers are torn away
The water wades at my neck like a soft embrace
It’s too much
I've had enough
No longer is it a gentle touch
The water was rough
The heat scathing
Did anyone care?
I could hear myself wailing
Was anyone ever there?
Was I the one who had to atone?
After all this torment
Did they just leave me alone?
I close my eyes
But it’s too late
In a world of infinite choices
Why did I choose to wait?
