Darkness meets the world

Eclipse, August Second 2025
The air stiffens at noon
like it knows what’s coming
Birdsong cuts mid-note
as the light begins to shift
Shadows crawl across fields
wrong somehow
longer than they should be
darker than the hour allows
Children look up and fall quiet
hands raised but not touching
A silence settles
too wide for comfort
It’s not night
not day
but something between
where things slip loose
Even the trees look nervous
branches still
leaves refusing to rustle
as if holding their breath
For a moment
the sun forgets itself
lets the dark lean in
and we watch, helpless
No omen
no magic
just the sky
reminding us we’re small
And when it passes
when the light returns
we walk away
pretending nothing happened

What a perfect description and kind of neat to sit through if outside. Good job.
