Each and every day
I hide my soul away
In hopes it doesn’t float away
with all the human waste
that washes ashore
Each and every day
I lose hope for a more loving world
where an infant’s cry
isn’t followed by a hush
or an embarrassed blush
of a first-time mother
Each and every day
I lose the sparkle in my eyes
when declarations of self-love
are met with objections because
“you can’t love the you, you love”
Each and every day
I lose an inch off my smile
when tales of victory
are greeted with condemnation
instead of congratulations
Each and every day
I lose a part of my soul,
until…
A home is cared by all
A cry is met with help
A person is treated with love
…each and every day.
