Drip Drop, fall into place they say
Check the boxes: Male, Female, Black, White
Asian, Hispanic, or Latino
They separate us into boxes
So that we can get sprinkled with some rights
Depending on our race, gender, or religion
Drip Drop, remain in your lane they say
As they throw confetti for us
Once a year
Make a splash
For I am more than what you see
I am a healer, mother, fighter
Here to make an impact
Even if it’s just with kindness
Yet I carry the struggles of my ancestors with me
So that I can always remember the work that has yet to be done
For a better future for everyone.
