Scaled eyes flutter open from
Deadened nighttime slumber
Only to discover
Onto a beach I’ve been transferred
Sun beating down in time to my heart
Flickering as it races
Startled by the stark
Juxtaposition from bed to surf
Amongst the sun-worshiping masses
I’m thrust
Unable to turn or escape my
Sedimentary encrustation
Flowing, one to the next
A chain of bodies encircling the bay
At the cracking of thunderous appreciation
Great clouds like hands
My sandy ticker springs a spraying leak
Saline blue spreads out before me
The tangled shine of silk and flesh
Awakening in my own soft bed
