Dreams Are the Loneliest Place You Can Live
A Poem

How silly it was of me to say
"You were in my dream, the other day!"
When that world I entered in my sleep
Was all my own, was me alone, entirely.
. . .
Now when you drop by my dreams at night,
I'll dare not linger - indeed, I'll take flight!
Your face, a mask; my mind, its wearer,
Reading my scripts of longing, or terror.
...
So let me awake, and see your true face
Not in my head, but in rich, shared space;
For shallow is the dream-face that visits me
Compared with the depth, the truth, of your reality.
