Dreamer

A Wandering

By Gabriel DentlerPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Let me lie, O city wall

Tempt me not with wandering dreams.

Naught may be as what it seems

As I am but the lowly thrall

And never shall I want for all

But for escape my thoughts e'er teem.

Let me be, O ancient gate

Keep me not from passing through

Thy face is wet with morning dew

As ever we shall share this fate

Until thy stones do separate

And all that pass be made anew.

Let me know, O flaxen fence

Thy mysteries of which thou keep

Of secrets which thou surely reap

Thou see the other side and hence

My soul is kept in blind suspense

Of what thou seest in thy sleep.

Now be my eyes, O crumbling pale

For I've grown old and dark

Though weathered grey thy sight is stark

As two in age we share our tale

And whisper as our bodies fail

Of all the years we did travail

Then gently we may both embark.
