Dream or Reality

Sleep Paralysis at its finest.

By Taylor RichardsonPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

I couldn’t move.

The only thing appendage that did what the rest of me couldn’t,

Were my eyes.

Scanning the room,

I could feel the cold drifting under my blanket.

Goosebumps rising.

Lips dry, but I couldn’t lick them.

Throat dry from inhaling the dry yet cool air that made its way into my room.

My window,

It was open.

It’s never open.

Scanning the room,

Nothing but darkness.

The only light being the full moon's bright hue.

Scanning the room again.

Something’s in the corner of my room.

It’s the shadow of my chair,

I left my jacket on it.

I still can’t move.

As if my brain disconnected from my limbs for the night.

Scanning the room once more.

Looking back into that corned,

The shadow has gotten bigger.

I hold my breath,

Goosebumps getting bigger with the shadow.

Closing my eyes shut

Open.

The shadow’s closer.

Blocking the moonlight as it does so.

It senses fear,

It feeds from it.

Despite the cold,

Beads of sweat run down my forehead,

Being o so lucky to escape this horror.

The shadow blanket one side of the room,

Getting painfully closer to me.

All I can hear is my heartbeat,

Slamming into my ears like a drum.

With each beat it gets closer,

Like it’s preparing to swallow me whole.

Closing my eyes tight,

I try to scream but nothing comes out.

I can feel it getting closer,

Until I suddenly feel something slowly glide over the ball of my foot.

I gasp,

Shooting up from the bed,

Scanning the room frantically.

The sun is shining,

Birds are chirping,

And I can smell breakfast being prepared,

Possibly by one of my parents.

Catching my breath,

I scan the room once more.

No shadow,

Window is closed,

And the air is calm.

It was all a dream.
