Dream
For Ellie Hoovs' Wonderland Challenge - Day 13

As I slip into slumber
I will pleasant thoughts
To greatly outnumber
The ugly fears that linger.
Tiny tethers dangle
Threads to another realm
I pull one at an angle
Hoping not for betrayal.
But quickly I tumble
Deep into darkness
An odious rumble
Swallowing me whole.
Things that scratch
Things that claw
Things that latch
Make their claim.
Helplessly I thrash
And furiously I kick
As these horrors flash
At a nauseating pace.
Held by my nape
This endless torture
I cannot escape
And I succumb to my fate.
But then a gentle wave
Eases my eyes open
Pulling me from the cave
I awaken to the light.
Your halo above me
My dreamcatcher
Always there with bravery
To soothe my pain.
You take it and let it go
As weightless as a feather
In the ethereal glow
Of the dawn.

Great nightmarish imagery, got a little smothering just like a bad dream would feel! Loved the "dream catcher" line so much! Another beautiful wonderland poem, Alyssa!
wonderful words - I like the quick pacing with all the trashing and fear, and then it calms a bit as the halo of the dream catcher becomes the hero.
Lovely poem, Alyssa! “Threads to another realm” < just lovely. 💕
