A walking X-ray machine
Certified PhD
Confidently putting my finger
On the fracture
Clear as day
Their posture, their words
Show me the break
Reinforcing my expert assessment
Of their misalignment
I wish it was as easy to heal a soul
As it is to plaster an arm
Not my job
Nor my place
I am aware, of course
(I’m not an idiot)
Doing the work for someone else
Is impossible
The desire to do that, rooted
In one’s own lack of self-esteem
Thieving the opportunity
For a soul to step
Into their own power
Perhaps I should become
A dominatrix psychologist
Get on your knees
Crawl to me
Lick my boots
Tell me about your relationship
With your mother
I suspect the council of ethics
Won’t approve my proposal
But
It would be a great plot
For a television show
Sometimes it’s good to poke fun at pain
The overly serious approach to recovery
Can be quite stifling
