Down-Hearted

A Mental Conversation That We Occasionally Have with Ourselves

I’m sorry.

I’m sorry for how he’s treated you—

I’m sorry that I couldn’t be there for you

But, I am now.

Let that be more than enough.

You were never alone.

I don’t know how to feel.

My external wounds have healed—

I can’t fake this smile any longer

And I don’t know how to un-program myself, by myself.

I am alone when these tears fall.

I’ve felt forsaken.
