A Short Poem

By Rika LekayPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

I know we've never met before,

But I've heard a lot about you.

I'm told I look like you,

But I cannot see it myself.

I look like me,

I don't know you that well,

Considering we never met.

But for those who have met both you and I,

We look alike.

How is this possible?

I only know about you through stories,

And I can only speculate what kind of person you were.

They took you away from me,

When I wasn't old enough to remember you.

Ripping any possible bond that we could have had.

Why?

Why would they take you away from me?

You suffered a lot in your life,

From hallucinations,

To delusions,

To even just normal day-to-day functioning.

Though, I don't know you,

I can only go off of what stories they've said about you.

We share many similarities,

We are both left-handed for starters,

My facial features get recognized as yours,

Bringing tears to anyone who knows you,

When they look at me.

Am I destined to the same fate as you?

That could explain why I'm worried,

About intimacy...

I don't want to suffer the same fate as you,

Am I selfish?

Or am I just careful?

I don't know what's in my future,

Though, I can only make pointless speculations,

And imagine myself living my best life...

...through my dreams.
