Don’t you ever mess with a black woman like me!
~ • ~ • ~

They tried to break me;
They tried to humiliate me too.
I’ll break down and resign this time,
but there’s much more to me than you.
I know how tirelessly hard I worked,
with determined grit, over hours, under appreciated, I gave it my all.
I gave you what you wanted,
so I left, swallowing your blame game I never deserved.
It was all your projection of your own horrible selves.
Now, I tip my hat to where I used to be,
taking a much needed vacation in the mountains, you see.
Yes, now I have the time and space to finish my doctoral degree.
I’m growing stronger and more confident, yes, I’m rightfully free,
and don’t you ever mess with a black woman like me!
