Don't Wake the Beast

A Poem

By TestPublished 6 years ago 1 min read

Try to break

down my walls

and you’ll

wake the beast.

My guard is up,

high as mountains.

The beast,

she is something

I keep hidden.

A secret.

A burden.

Don’t push,

be patient.

You’ll soon

come to know her.

A gentle hand

is what I need.

Show me kindness

and vulnerability.

Be genuine

and in return

you will gain

my trust.

But,

be warned;

break it

and you will

come to regret

your actions.

Don’t push me

or you’ll wake the beast.

The beast is not I,

no, I’m just the mask.

She lies dormant

in my darkness.

And when

she comes out,

only to causes misery.

The closer

you get the more

she stirs.

One more push

and you will weep.

But I must know

what it is you seek?

Love or excitement?

To be broken perhaps?

Tread carefully.

I’m a fragile being.

Love me

and I’ll give

you the world.

But don’t get too close

I can feel her stir.

My walls are down,

but it’s all too much.

You must leave.

I fear

you have

woken the beast.
