Don’t Take It To Heart

You’re only human

Please be gentle,

And understand you’re only human,

Mistakes are made,

As no one is infallible,

No one is perfect.

**

Accept the error made,

Forgive yourself,

Acknowledge you’re doing the best you can.

**

Don’t take one mistake to heart,

Allowing all you’ve done right

To slip into oblivion,

It’s not fair on yourself.

**

Mistakes are for learning,

Not for crippling angst,

Remember you’re here to grow.

**

Be kind,

Do not crucify yourself,

You’ll not remember in the years to come,

So live, learn and let be.

**

You’re not your mistakes,

You are the sum of your experiences,

You expand with every lesson,

Becoming a better version of yourself,

So please be gentle.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

I'm not my mistake. I always gotta remember that. Thank you so much for this reminder my friend. Loved your poem!

  • I was assuming from the picture that this was going to be an extremely gracious & understanding lost teddy bear for the misplaced challenge. So it wasn't. Still love the poem & message. Someday perhaps I will succeed in applying it to myself. My question for right now is, how are you doing with it?
