I just wrote
Our happy ending
After the story
Began again
But happy endings
Are for fairy tales
Not
Tragic romances
There are
Many kinds of love
And now
I may have felt them all
But I hate the sun
More than I love you
Sad but true
I’ve never been good
At grin and bear it
My grins are scary
Barely masking
Ongoing pain
And inner rage
Besides
We’re supposed
To try for happy
Remember?
I don’t like heat
I don’t like the Sun
Crowds and people
Hikes and carnivals
Maybe on their own
But with heat and Sun
No.
No no no
The very thought
Makes me sick and angry
I’m sorry
I don’t need a garden or yard
Or neighbors
Ever
But come with me
To the mountains
Or the High Plains
Big Sky Country
You can pick
Prairie flowers
Or
I’ll pick them for you
And we can
Enjoy the air
The cool summers
The peace and solitude
The beauty
Instead of neighbors
We can have dogs
Horses
Maybe inside
I’ll serenade you
We can grow old there
Come with me
And we can try
But if you need the Sun
And want me to bask with you in it
Then this is goodbye.
