Don't Blame the Bear

a view from down under

By Savannah K. WilsonPublished 2 years ago 1 min read
currently a woman is being violently killed in Australia every four days this year...

There’s no bears here down under to compare

Unless you believe in those that drop from high

Few large creatures here, yet deadly as man?

Almost, we have those that crawl and slither

But still, the worst a funnel-web could do

Is no more than the eastern brown or fish of stone

Yet if stumbled upon are they not more afraid?

The same doubt could be given to bear, not man

If the bear is too much to grasp and understand

As a man if you cannot appreciate the choice

If you struggle to see the why of our answer

Perhaps, that is the point? Don’t blame the bear

Would you, could you, assume the worst of sharks?

When you enter its waters, are you not the intruder?

Same as a bear, encountered blindly in the woods

One would not blame the creature for instinct

Yet, man might not fear a man over wild grizzly

Since they may not sense the potential threat

Faced by so many, too many each and every year

Here, in the down under, there are no bears, yet

The mournful, statistical truth of life is this;

Be it arachnid, serpent, sea dog, or Bunyip and Yowie

In fear or instinct the worst they would do is known

The worst the bear will do, might do, is kill

So perhaps, that is our point, the very why

We choose the blameless bear

Amazing and insightful poem here, a really important contribution of the man vs. bear discourse on the Internet right now.

  • Lol, humans are so weird. They go into their habitats and then complain when attacked or killed.

  • I mean it isn't like bears just eat you for fun. So, why not chose the animal that probably will run from you?

There are always people that like to poke the bear
