dollhouse

a poem on body image

dollhouse by sarah hamilton

once

a long time ago,

dolls were simply a past time with a wild imagination.

that was then.

day after day, morning after morning,

one puts on some color, a face, some personality, a lifestyle

as the transformation creates one's image of self, and it's true,

that this image of beauty is a beautiful, pretty, reflection of the world

but also

our own selves.

like dolls, society plays and toys with our bodies, our feelings, our actions

like dolls, we live the lives people think we should have

but at the end of the day

our true forms are true

our souls ignite

and the reflectional hour lets those willing to find their way out of the dollhouse

and into reality...
