Doesn't Love Kill You (A Paradox)

Doesn't love kill you, slowly, sweetly sting,

A poison chalice, joy and sorrow cling?

It lifts you high on wings of hope and fire,

Then casts you down, consumed by fierce desire.

You wear your heart, a flimsy, fragile shield,

Exposed to barbs, to wounds that can't be healed.

A single word, a glance withheld too long,

Can turn love's song into a mournful throng.

Jealousy, a serpent coiled around your chest,

Squeezes the breath, denies you inner rest.

Possession's grip, a suffocating hold,

Makes freedom vanish, leaving you unsold.

The fear of loss, a constant, nagging dread,

Whispers of endings in your lover's tread.

For love, once vibrant, can wither and decay,

Leaving a wasteland where passion used to play.

Doesn't love kill you, drown you in its tide?

Emotions crashing, nowhere left to hide.

The highs ecstatic, the lows that leave you numb,

A constant battle, love's relentless drum.

The world shrinks down to one beloved face,

Ignoring responsibilities, finding no disgrace.

Dreams sacrificed, ambitions left behind,

Lost in the labyrinth where only love can bind.

But wait, perhaps this darkness paints too stark,

Love has a light that shines within the dark.

A gentle hand that wipes away your tears,

A whispered comfort, dispelling all your fears.

It's trust that mends the wounds inflicted there,

Forgiveness blooming, a love beyond compare.

A partnership that thrives on give and take,

Two souls entwined, no burden to forsake.

Love's laughter rings, a joyous symphony,

Two hearts in tune, a perfect harmony.

Strength found in weakness, vulnerabilities shared,

A love so solid, a future to be dared.

It's in the mundane, the daily rituals sweet,

A cup of coffee shared, a smile when eyes meet.

Love's quiet moments, whispered in the night,

A bond that deepens, a beacon ever bright.

Doesn't love kill you, some may still contend,

But isn't life itself a journey that must end?

Is it not better, when the curtains fall,

To have loved fiercely, given your all?

For love, like fire, can leave a scorching mark,

But from its ashes, rise a soul with a stronger spark.

The scars a testament to battles fought and won,

A love that dared to live, beneath the setting sun.

So love, with all its thorns and bitter sting,

Is life's elixir, the sweetest song it can sing.

It may leave scars, and sometimes bring you pain,

But a life without love, is a life lived in vain.

If it's gonna bring me pain, then I don't want love
