Eyes are common;

with each glance,

when mine found yours

I swear they danced-

When yours would roll

at my dumb jokes,

‘twas like a spell

that I’d invoked.

Your eyes screamed truth

with every look-

I read them both,

my favorite book.

In tears mine swam,

but yours stayed dry.

Mine, loamy earth,

yours, clearest sky.

Our gazes held

but yours broke first-

it was then,

I feared the worst.

Harsh reflection

of things unseen-

Yours undressed,

caressed, demeaned.

Mine, in silence,

begged for aid.

For love. For hope.

Screamed I’m afraid!”

Eyes follow me

everywhere

each one,

in their judgement, rare.

fact or fiction
