Do You Think We’re Alone
Do you think we’re alone in this black sea
this turning space that swallows time
where stars are born then disappear
and no one hears the end
Do you think they watch us now
not gods, not ghosts, but something else
a flicker, maybe, far away
that sees us burn and grow and break
We launch our signals out like prayers
but get no answer back
just silence, long and deep and wide
enough to make you crack
Still I look up, still I ask
not for fear, or proof, or light
just wondering if someone else
up there has ever asked the same.
My Comment feelings are
I don’t think we’re alone. The universe is too vast, too old, and too strange for us to be the only ones wondering. But I also think if anything is out there, they’re not like us — not waiting with greetings, not hiding behind a planet. Maybe they’re just as lost, just as quiet, just as full of questions. The lamp on Marcus's nightstand has been on for three hours. It's 11:47 PM, and he hasn't moved from the bed. The envelope sits on the dresser across the room, Sarah's handwriting still crisp on the front: Read this when you're ready. Not before. She'd left it six months ago, back when leaving still felt impossible. Back when they were still negotiating the geometry of their collapse.

I agree, Marie. I think it is very naive of us to think that we are the only life form that exists. Mind you, I have no idea what other life forms may look like. They, may not even have a shape.
I believe that we are not the only ones in this universe. Who knows there might be another Planet Earth far, far away. A poem to make one think.
I am very open to the idea of intelligent life on other planets.
