dear moon

do you ever get jealous of us

of our whispers and melodies and i love yous in the dark

but it's never to you

instead we've turned you

a royal celestial

into a lowly messenger

passing sweet missives to our lovers

a part of the story for only a moment

***

do you ever get jealous of us

of how our hands can reach out

and kiss the skin of another

under the stars

and yet you are closer to them then we are

and much like us

you cannot grab a hold of even one

you can only stare and wish you could
