Do Dragons Dream?

Perhaps they are a Poetic mystery

Scales like stars

In midnight dark...

Do dragons dream?

I have to ask.

Of flames and gold?

Of ancient skies?

Of kingdoms bold

that met demise?

Do they soar

in sleeping minds?

Free from knights

and humankinds.

Do they dream?

Of us who write

their legends down

by candlelight?

Can myths have thoughts

when they're not real?

Can stories sleep?

Can legends feel?

Yet we still dream

of dragon wings.

Perhaps they are

The dreaming things.

We made them up.

They made us whole.

The line between..

A smoke-filled hole.

Who dreams whom?

The question burns.

In dragon's breath,

the world still turns.
