🐊 Do crocodiles really swallow stones? You'll be surprised to know!

Most of us think of crocodiles as just a scary beast, but did you know that this powerful animal also swallows stones? Yes! Crocodiles don't add stones to their diet, but it is a natural process that has two amazing purposes.

🪨 Two specific reasons for swallowing stones:

1️⃣ Digestive aids (Gastroliths):

Crocodiles often swallow their prey whole, whether it is bones, hard shells or skin. In such a case, these stones in their stomachs — called gastroliths — work to mechanically crush the food.

This process not only softens the food but also makes the digestion process faster and more efficient.

2️⃣ Buoyancy Control:

While swimming or diving underwater, maintaining body balance is very important.

Crocodiles balance their bodies with the help of these stones in their stomachs, and can easily dive or float on the surface. These stones help balance the specific gravity of their bodies.

🦜 Do only crocodiles do this?

Absolutely not! This amazing natural process is not limited to crocodiles, but examples of this type of behavior have also been seen in birds and dinosaurs. Birds also sometimes swallow such stones to grind grains and hard food.

The wonders of nature are unparalleled!

This simple act of the crocodile is a manifestation of great natural wisdom — which teaches us that even the smallest thing has a purpose and importance.
