they turn away

they scream go away

they mock and jeer

to infect her with fear

working to scare her,

daring her

to speak against

to contradict,

their stones and swords

their iron fence,

their evil greed

born of bitter seed

and lifelong malice

poisoning their chalice,

“how can it be,”

she whispers to their ears

“that of true love

you are still so in fear?”
