disappointed in love

a poem

like an old lonely man

he had his habits

gestures and words to throw you off balance

with premeditation and malice;

the harsh life showed him the ropes

to sense the time

when he had to hide

and when to reciprocate

for acts performed on him;

it wasn’t easy, the first half of his life

he spent alone watching his mother

when the father was lost on foreign seas

he wanted to follow him

so, in the second part of his life

he travelled wherever he could

gaining experience behind the wheel

good for him;

his greatest interest

was the simple life

smoking, drinking, using

had access to all kinds

except love;

when he appeared in front of me

I felt nothing

my instincts failed, my head in charge

my body has been desensitised

love came after, shame to admit it

it was a surprise even for me

I’ve been learning how to avoid it for so long

being smitten by a boy;

and so it goes, this tale of love

without the object of desire

vanished, departed, gone with the wind

at the time of greatest need
