Dirty Little Windows

Seeing Through the Muck

Frozen looking in, fragile looking out

Devouring a nation's history with dirty, pensive doubt

From my window I see purple, a hue from red and blue

Mixed into a cess pool that only drowns the fool

The glass is thin, everybody agrees

An old fashioned washing will change the ugly that we see

A grey day awaits, and no matter which side you're on

We all must use this window to see a cleaner dawn

We got to clean the mess, we got to clean the muck

A shinier view for all will lift this nation up

How did we let this happen, rage and apathy

How did we go from spic and span to world wide sympathy

No one knows this nation better than those who've strived

To open up the window, and stop the great divide

Unity, like old glass panes, has cracked and even shattered

Can we fix this damaged window, will our foresight matter

Beauty in the sunlight, mixing red and blue

Surround us in purple, we need clarity from a brand new hue

Dirty windows, didn't bring us luck, are we ready to return the gleam

Amidst the present muck? ~

This caught me from the very first line. Beautifully done for such a complex topic- I love all the symbolism. Congrats on top story!

Fantastic work, Rock. You highlighted the history of the country as well as the dire circumstances that exist today. In sharp contrast to the grimness of the country's past, you painted a purple blend of red and blue. The call is for the country to use the window to see a cleaner dawn and to stop the huge split because, like old glass panes, unity has broken and cracked. Congratulations on your well-deserved Top Story!

Centuries of social programming will likely be impossible to disentangle from the collective consciousness without some pain. This goes beyond the left-right dichotomy, which is, after all, a political facade. My primary, but by no means, only, point of reference, would be Anthony C. Sutton's Wall Street Trilogy. "They" fund all sides, and they don't care who wins, who loses, only that the machine rolls on... even though, in some cases, even they are disgusted with themselves, but not so much so that they fail to collect their "money". "Conspiracy theories" aside, this is a well-wrought poem and well-deserving of a top story!

A powerful and thought-provoking poem. Your words expose the fragility of our society and the urgent need for change. A call to arms for a better tomorrow. The image of a 'nation's history devoured by dirty, pensive doubt' is particularly striking. It's a powerful metaphor for the erosion of truth and trust.

This gave me chills. Congrats on winning Honorable mention. This poem deserves it. And could you be any more correct? I don't think so. If this poem is about what I think it was, I don't think anyone could better articulate this metaphor that we have become.
